Connecting to Wifi or Ethernet

  • Connect to a Wi-Fi network

    Click Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, then choose a network. If Wi-Fi is off, click Wi-Fi off icon, then select Turn Wi-Fi On.*

    If you connect to a public Wi-Fi network, a window might appear with terms and conditions you're asked to agree to before you can connect.

    Connect to a secure Wi-Fi network

    Secure Wi-Fi networks are password-protected and have A black and white image of a padlock, symbolizing security and protection. by their names.

    1. Click Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar. If Wi-Fi is off, click Wi-Fi off icon, then choose Turn Wi-Fi On.*
    2. Choose a network.
    3. Click Join. If you don't have access to the Wi-Fi network, please contact your site secretary for assistance.
  • Connecting to a network using Ethernet

    To connect to the Internet over a wired connection, connect an Ethernet cable between your router or modem and the Ethernet Ethernet icon port on your Mac.

    Some Macs require an Ethernet adapter like the Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

     
  • Windows 10

    1. To connect to a Wi‑Fi network in Windows, select the Network icon ( or ) on the taskbar.
    2. Select the Wi‑Fi network you want > Connect, then type the password and follow the instructions. That's it—you're connected! This icon will appear in the taskbar.
    3. If you don't have access to the Wi-Fi network, please contact your site secretary for assistance.

       

    Windows 7

    1. On the right side of the taskbar, you will see a wireless network icon like the one below. Click on it.
    2. A window with available network connections will open. As you can see from the screenshot below, the list is split by the type of available network connections.
    3. At the top you have dial-up and virtual private network (VPN) connections, while at the bottom you have a list with all the wireless networks which Windows 7 has detected. To refresh the list of available networks, click on the button highlighted in the screenshot below.
    4. You can scroll down through the list of available networks. If you leave your mouse cursor over a network for a second, you will see more details about it. Windows 7 will show the following: network name, signal strength, the type of wireless security used (if any) and its Service Set identifier (SSID).
    5. Once you decided on which network to connect to, click on it.
    6. If you don't have access to the Wi-Fi network, please contact your site secretary for assistance.
  • To connect to the Internet over a wired connection, connect an Ethernet cable between your router or modem and the Ethernet Ethernet icon port on your computer.
